The Moon enters Scorpio tonight at 9:24 PST and over the course of its stay there it will transit through the Disseminating phase of the lunation cycle. In this phase, whatever intention was initiated at the New Moon cycle will have reached fulfillment through the Full Moon and will now face the necessary and possible struggle inducing task of articulation. The intention or creation relative to the New Moon must have some sort of social use or component in order for it to be understood. No one of us lives in a void (although we may come from and go to the void!) and by natural law must share and partake and even understand ourselves better through interaction with others.
With the Moon in Scorpio during this phase there will be a powerful capacity to communicate whatever that core message may be, bring about union with it, and effect transformation. Scorpio possesses the ability, realized or not by anyone, to cut to the core psycho-dynamic of any issue, situation, or relationship. This is one of the reasons that Scorpio is recognized as secretive, defensive, and intense you see, because Scorpio is aware, consciously or not, of the myriad motives behind an interaction, and of course not all of them are very nice. So there is a protective element with Scorpio, sometimes of others, and sometimes of its own needs.
Scorpio is associated with the water element along with Cancer and Pisces. Each sign of the zodiac is also related to a specific planetary energy and the Moon is related to Cancer. Remember the Sun is still in Pisces, which is associated with Neptune, also in Pisces right now and will be in a harmonizing aspect with the Moon as it enters Scorpio tonight. Holy Shit! That's like a torrential downpour of the water element. Water correlates to the emotions, intuition, and psychic energy and with all these powerful forces in water the emotional body will be highly charged.
It might be a good thing during these next couple of days to ground yourself somehow to contain this emotional energy. Spend some time in nature, hang out with a dog or cat, meditate with an earth surrender ritual, work with crystals or gems, or just sit and think of earth. Of course once grounded, listen to and feel those emotional messages. They are there for a reason.
Looking west again in the night sky you will see the magical communing of Venus and Jupiter, the goddess of love with the god of the sky. Another association of Scorpio is passion and sexuality and there is a good reason for this as the 8th House, Scorpio's home, relates in part to the ego death function of consciousness. Sex being an intense mingling of the sensory body (sight, touch, smell, taste, hear) simultaneously, which produces at orgasm that state of self-forgetting, makes this a realm of the scorpion. Tonight will be a good night to let those passions flow and be absorbed in the moonlit sensuality.
This is also the Crow Moon month. The crow has many, many lessons to teach and people all over the world from time before time listened to the crow, and oftentimes the crow has lead them to the underworld and the shadow realm. For sure there is something about the dark side to consider for the next couple of days. Carl Jung discussed often the shadow aspect of personality, that part of us that we repress or hide our weaknesses or shortcomings. No matter how hard we try to hide them they're there and one way or another they come out. In fact when they are suppressed they usually come out in a very dramatic and nonconstructive way. The water triad in general correlates to this shadow aspect so this is a good time to constructively deal with those elements that you may try to deny. You know, instead of getting insanely drunk and driving, go out and howl at the moon...
Regardless of whether you'r out there killing ego through sex, drugs, rock n roll, ritual, or otherwise here's a little poem about the crow from Jamie Sams and David Carson's Medicine Cards:
are you "cawing",
so I may know,
The secrets of balance,
Within my soul?
Or are you sending,
Your sacred "caw"
Just to remind me,
Of Unviversal laws?
The moon has entered Libra bringing the high vibrations of the day into the relational principle tonight, and although the Full Moon phase is still in effect, the sun and moon have moved out of the oppositional aspect. Relationship is a good key word for the next couple of days with this emotional attunement, represented by the moon, as well as a strong Venus in its home state of Taurus beautifully conjunct Jupiter and don’t forget Saturn retrograde in Libra. When considering relationship it is worthwhile to remember that relating is not just an outward experience with an "other" but an inward phenomenon as well that guides each individual to a better understanding of their natural attunement. Libra represents the relating to an "other" and Taurus represents the inner relating.
Libra has been traditionally correlated with balance however; a good key point to remember with Libra is that there are usually lessons in balance. Those scales have to be balanced by give and take with each side. They do not magically balance. Saturn represents the structure of reality for an individual, the limits and parameters of consciousness. Retrogradation makes whatever energy it’s working through internalized. Put the two together in Libra and there is an internal investigation into the understanding of your barriers and limits to harmonizing relationships. This is a very thoughtful time for considering all aspects of relating to another and the challenges faced: spiritual, sexual, economically, morally, and creatively, clearly important considerations for anyone in a committed relationship or not.
The moon represents, among many other dynamics, emotion. Venus represents feelings. There is an important distinction between the two highlighted by these formations. Emotions are pre-thought and pre-verbal, spontaneous, and raw. Feelings are defined, articulated (not necessarily well), and considered. Feelings help to define what we value and consider pleasing and beautiful. This is an aspect of the Venus in Taurus archetype and a highlighted function for the next several days. This is in part where all the funky Law of Attraction business may come from. See, with the Venus in Taurus function, whatever it is you are feeling and therefore attuning to as aesthetically pleasing; you are vibrating that frequency and thus attracting those experiences.
Venus in Taurus conjunct Jupiter brings and exploratory flair to that inner search. Jupiter is more into “feeling” than knowing in the mental realm being opposed naturally to Mercury and Gemini, so there is a real strength and pulls in the intuitive function.
My god, there is so much more to say…but tis better to experience. Keep these ideas in mind for the next few days and maybe keep a journal of your own experiences, feelings, emotions, intuitions, synchronistic experiences, and definitions of relationship.
There's a whole lot of action up there, out there, in here...basically all around and throughout right now. Just in time for the beautiful Full moon tonight on the Pisces/Virgo axis came two massive Solar Flares. One was shot out on Monday and the other on Tuesday. Solar flares are emissions from the sun, huge explosions that send solar radiation through the solar system. These shots happen on a periodic basis and the cause of the beautiful light show known as the aurora borealis. Every so often, about every 10 years, the episodes become extreme and the emissions from the sun are more and more. This period is known as a solar maximum. Through the rest of this and into next year we will be in a solar maximum period and these have been noticed as extreme times for civilization. The 1920-1930's period is a good one to look at as an example. There was a solar maximum period in the middle to late 1920's and a massive drop in 1929 coinciding nicely with the Roaring 20's which ended with the stock market crash and then the Great Depression.
That's obviously an extreme example but effective in describing the power that these bombardments of solar energy can carry. Since the Sun represents our vitality and creative expression there can be a heightened urge towards that type of fulfillment at this time. More importantly perhaps, is that there are forces to be harnessed right now through these solar emissions. That the Sun is in Pisces, an important transitional archetype, the urge towards dissolution of old, worn out patterns that hinder creative self expression may grow. Pisces is a powerful, deeply emotional, and intuitive energy that has the power to transform consciousness in a very collective sense. It being the 12th and "last" house in the zodiac (can there ever be a last in a circle?) it carry's the understanding, or potential understanding, of the union of opposites. I like to think of it as the mitakuye oyasin lesson in life. Mitakuye oyasin is the Lakota word for all my relations. It is heard quite often at Lakota ceremonies such as Sundance or Inipi (sweatlodge) and is used more to mean we are all related and I think there is an important lesson through Pisces to understand and integrate that realization.
So while our vital selves may be experiencing strong doses of that Piscean type sentiment, however one may be ready or not to accept it, the emotional body, represented by the moon, full tonight in Virgo, will be busy, busy, busy sifting through, sorting through all of those potential relations to see how best to serve. Virgo is an earth sign so there is good solid grounding, well needed considering the mystical, transcendent nature of Pisces, and Virgo is also representative of the transition from subjective, personal experience to the broader communal experience. Through Virgo what we have to offer as service to others is sought after and with the moon here there is an emotional tint. This dynamic, this full moon, may be calling us to understand ourselves in relation to how we can serve each other's emotional needs best. How can we serve each other in ways that do not rile or chafe the emotional state but rather create a graceful presence? A tall order indeed but perhaps well worth it? Hell, just walk out the door and you can see the need for it in 10 minutes.
It's hard in this world that we live in today to embody the boundarliness nature of Pisces and even harder to combine it with the notion of service towards others and it's no wonder the dark sides of both Pisces and Virgo, alcoholism, drug addiction, crisis, and delusion abound. I face the challenge everyday to live according to my true and resonant code in the face of hordes of souls lost in the world of commerce, politics, and belief systems outside of natural law. I forget. It's easy....Ultimately it's no excuse though and one way or another I will learn the lesson. It has been proven to me over and over many times the hard way. This Full Moon and the accompanying solar flares serve as stark reminder of our connection to each other and our Mother Earth. Some of the other side effects of solar maximums can be grave and severe for us here: power grid failures, satellite knock-outs, earthquakes. We had 2 earthquakes here in the Bay Area Monday morning before the events occurred. Better to bathe in the shower of Piscean unity reflected through grounded emotion tonight than be forced to learn through the shock and awe of shattered darkness.
As the Moon continues its waxing journey towards the Full Moon on the 8th, an interesting aspect has developed in Aires where Uranus and Mercury conjoin. Today in fact they were both at 3 degrees in Aires making this a powerful force of mental activity. Uranus and Mercury share a certain resonance in that they are associated with the Air triad (Mercury technically associates with 2 signs, Gemini and Virgo) Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius attuning them to mental processing.
There are several ways of parsing out their differences but the simplest way to understand it is that Mercury has to do with conscious, present, everyday thought processes; short-term memory while Uranus has to do with realms of consciouness, thoughts, and even memories that an individual is not able to utilize everyday; long-term memory . I for instance can wake up in the morning and be thinking, "gotta get my coffee, what's the day at work going to be like, don't wake up Michelle, I hope it's a nice day, is the coffee ready...." Mercury type thinking. I don't wake up psychoanalyzing the relationship between my parents and its' affect on all my relationships throughout my life and how it may be the cause of immense tension in my relationship right now...I get to that after coffee. This is Uranus realm.
Both Mercury and Uranus are associated with the brain and the nervous system and considering they are together in Aires, the god of war, Aires who requires essential freedom to accomplish whatever it seeks to accomplish, there will be an emphasis on forward thinking, future planning, and possibly streams of ideas. It's entirely possible that the flood of thoughts is so powerful as to cause stress and frazzle nerves. On my best days I write three pages in the morning before I read or take in any information. This is a very good time for such acts.
A very, possible, useful thing to keep in mind is that this same aspect is going to happen 2 more times. Mercury will go retrograde starting next week on the 12th of March and return to this conjunction with Uranus on the 19th and 20th. Really, until that time it won't go farther than 3 degrees apart so we will be feeling the heat of this all that time. Around the middle of April Mercury will begin it's trek back and in the middle of the month will come together again.
So there is something important about the individual and collective thought process during this time. Considering the sun's path through Pisces and into Aires, a time of dissolution and renewal/endings and beginnings, pay close attention to those thoughts that come bounding in from out of nowhere. Those possible shocking Uranian thoughts may just hold some powerful keys to liberation of the future and may be important to incorporate into Mercurian processes.
The aniticipation builds just as the appearence of the moon grows. The Moon entered Leo just a short time ago and the above chart reflects the tone here in San Francisco. The next couple of days will bring plenty of howling into the void around here and in general the sense of the dramatic will prevail wherever you are along with a gregarious, friendly mood. Lot's of heated emotions out here in San Francisco too with several forces is fire signs and several others in water. Not to mention the heat...good lord, for San Francisco this is HOT. Be nice to each other, take deep breaths, and drink cool water. This is a good time to hang out with kids and have a party (in the shade) or, if you're like Michelle and me, have one!
